Preparing for Your Pointe Shoe Fitting
To help you get the most out of your appointment, please review the following guidelines before your visit:
-
First-Time Fitting: If this is your first time being fitted for pointe shoes, please ensure your dance teacher has confirmed you're ready to begin pointe work.
-
Returning Dancers: If you've worn pointe shoes before, bring any foot protection you plan to use—such as toe pads or spacers—and make sure they’re clean.
-
Foot Prep: Please arrive with clean, dry feet and neatly trimmed toenails. Nails should not extend beyond the tips of your toes to avoid discomfort.
-
What to Wear: Wear the tights or socks you plan to use in class. Convertible tights are ideal.
-
Clothing: Choose comfortable, fitted clothing that allows the fitter to assess your posture. Trousers or dance pants should not go below the knee.
Do I Need an Appointment?
Yes—all pointe shoe fittings require a scheduled appointment. Each fitting is tailored to the dancer and begins with a barefoot assessment to evaluate foot shape, width, and alignment. Appointments typically last around an hour, but we’re happy to take longer if needed.
What to Expect During Your Fitting
Your fitting will begin with a barefoot assessment, including movements like rises, plié, and tendu, to help the fitter understand your feet. For first-time fittings, we’ll explain the anatomy of the shoe, how a properly fitted pointe shoe should feel, and answer any questions you may have.
Multiple styles and sizes will be tried to find the perfect fit—this process takes time and care. Fitters will ask questions throughout.
Once the right shoe is found, we’ll guide you through care instructions and how to sew on ribbons.
After the Fitting
Our support doesn’t end when you walk out the door. We encourage follow-up visits to check your shoes, as pointe shoes aren’t fitted with growing room and may wear out faster than regular footwear. Since they’re made from natural materials, they naturally break down over time, which can affect support and performance.
